Datawest Certifies Qualtex Corporation’s WeatherMaster ATM - 9/22/2003
September 22, 2003. Vancouver, BC – Datawest Solutions Inc. (TSX: DS), a leading
provider of innovative banking and payment technology solutions, announced today that it has
certified Qualtex Corporation's patented WeatherMaster ATM for use on Datawest's financial
transaction processing switch. Datawest is a member of Interac., a national organization
linking enterprises that have proprietary networks so that they may communicate with each
other for the purpose of exchanging electronic financial transactions. Datawest provides
payment processing and switching services for over 8,000 ATMs and 4,900 POS terminals in
Canada connected to its network.
Qualtex, based in Chicago, Illinois, is an ATM manufacturer and processor of ATM transactions.
The WeatherMaster is a high quality, weather-resistant, through-the-wall cash-dispenser. It is
the second generation of Qualtex's MBC1031 ATM. Like that machine, the WeatherMaster has
a rear screen and keypad for accessing management functions and a rear slide-out tray for the
dispenser and printer.
The WeatherMaster will add to the product offering that Datawest provides to its network of
independent sales organizations (ISOs). Datawest maintains a network of over 100 ISO clients
in Canada, for its ATM and POS payment solutions and processing services. These ISOs,
serving retailers nationwide, allow merchants and retail locations the ability to provide
convenient cash and payment services to their customers.
"We are pleased to have certified Qualtex's WeatherMaster ATM for use on our financial
switch," stated Mike Kelso, Datawest's president, Payment Solutions Group. "The addition of
this machine extends our network reach in Canada and we are very optimistic about potential
growth of this device in our network."
Brad Zerman, Qualtex's president, stated, "We are excited about working with Datawest, a truly
premier transaction provider. We are confident that our through-the-wall ATM products will
compliment the current product line of Datawest's clients. The WeatherMaster's compact size
and 24 hour accessibility creates increased revenue opportunities for all parties involved."
